Creating Art
Twenty-one environmental artists from around the globe will exhibit their installations at IPark, a 480-acre private artist's retreat in Connecticut, this Saturday. I've been documenting their progress and it's been great fun spending all day out in the woods capturing creativity at work. Here's a preview of piece by Korean artist Bonggi, a serpentine, hand-sawn wooden footbridge which leads to a sort of delicate, oval-shaped cage made from found branches. More to come...

Environmental Art takes Center Stage at IPark

Mary Travers
Mary Travers
Mary Travers, the flaxen blonde singer of the 1960s trio, "Peter, Paul and Mary," died last night at Danbury Hospital. I photographed her in 2005 well after she had been diagnosed with cancer and was in remission. I remember feeling concerned about capturing the spirit of someone who most remember as a beauty, but who now was somewhat ravaged by disease. I found these photos last night, and in retrospect I think they show her inner strength and beauty.

Paul Newman's Hole in the Wall Camp
Assignment: Photograph kids with cancer. Time per child: approximately 5 minutes. The Challenge: Capture their spirit, not their suffering. Last Saturday, I had the opportunity to photograph children suffering from cancer. Eight photographers from around the state were asked to volunteer their talents to photograph children with cancer at Paul Newman's Hole in the Wall Camp in Ashford, Conn. and to provide images to their parents. It was a wonderful experience; here's some of the kids.

Bob Dylan On Tour
Bob Dylan was in good form at the New Britain Stadium last Wednesday. Dylan is on tour with Willie Nelson and John Mellencamp. It used to be he was adamant about people not photographing him, but with the availability of cellphone cameras and the little point and shoot I have, it's impossible to stop. Still, would have liked to have had my Canon D5 with a 300mm instead.
